The Unpleasantness Index

I am working on a project that I hope will become a long-running thing, and in its service I need to amass a list of overtly racist quotes from prominent (or at least semi-prominent) figures. As this is the 21st century and everything is about crowdsourcing, I’m asking people to contribute by adding a reply to this page. Thanks in advance!

A couple of important notes:

To get the ball rolling, here are a few I’ve gathered.

“The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world” — Mel Gibson during 2006 DUI arrest

“Black people smell and attract vermin.” — Donald Sterling, according to a 2003 lawsuit

“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re sending people that have lots of problems…they’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.” — Donald Trump during announcement of candidacy for 2016 Republican Presidential Nomination

“You have people coming in, and I’m not just saying Mexicans, I’m talking about people that are from all over that are killers and rapists and they’re coming into this country.” — Donald Trump during interview on CNN

“I think our motto should be, post-9/11, ‘Raghead talks tough, raghead faces consequences.” — Ann Coulter at 2008 Conservative Political Action Conference

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro… and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do. And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.” — Cliven Bundy, speaking to the New York Times

“I, for one, am very glad to see young people like Dylan Roof acting like men instead of the old 60’s era hippies stoned on weed and interracial love. We had better see much more of this type of activism if we ever expect to see our America return to it’s [sic] rightful place in the world and our children grow up in a clean safe healthy enviroment [sic].” — Morris Gulett, Aryan Nations

I’m hoping that I can get by with a little help from my friends on this, as reading page after page of the SPLC’s excellent HateWatch blog is helpful, but very bad for my mental health. Thanks!
